IMPLANT RETAINED DENTURES IN ABBOTSFORD BC

Traditional dentures are a common replacement option for missing teeth and provide many advantages. However, if they are not fitted properly, they may slip out of place when you eat or speak.

Implant-retained dentures, on the other hand, are securely attached in your mouth with dental implants. Our denturist at Summit Denture Clinic specializes in creating customized implant-retained dentures and can help you fully regain your smile.

What Are Implant-Retained Dentures?

Implant-retained dentures are full or partial dentures that are attached to dental implants. Unlike traditional dentures that rest on the gums, these dentures snap into place and do not require adhesives.

A dental implant is a small titanium screw that is placed into your jaw by an oral surgeon. The implant functions as an artificial tooth root. Once it fuses with the jawbone, it can be connected to a crown, bridge, or denture.

How Are Implant-Retained Dentures Made?

To manufacture your implant-retained dentures, we start by measuring your jaw and taking impressions. Using them, we will create a model of your mouth and design your custom implant-retained denture.

The implants supporting the denture will be surgically placed in your jawbone by an oral surgeon. They will be allowed to heal and fuse with the bone.

Once the implants have fused with the bone and your dentures are ready, we will fit them over the implants.

In some cases, patients may require a bone graft to regenerate the bone that supports the dental implants.

What Are the Benefits of Implant-Retained Dentures?

Implant-retained dentures are more stable than traditional dentures and allow you to chew and speak comfortably, without the risk of having the denture slip or move out of place.

Implant-retained dentures provide the same benefits as normal dentures with the added benefit of being more secure and reliable.

What Are the Different Types of Implant-Retained Dentures?

There are two different types of implant-supported dentures. The first type is ball-retained, meaning it uses ball-retained implants to secure the denture, with the metal ball resting in the denture’s socket.

The second type of implant-supported denture is bar-retained. It uses a thin metal bar curved along the jawline to secure the dentures in place.

Who Can Get Implant-Retained Dentures?

Implant-retained dentures are a great option for patients looking for both full and partial dentures. They are also ideal for patients who already have dentures but have minimal bone height since they previously had limited options when it came to securing their dentures.

Implant-retained dentures replace the need for denture adhesives and provide a stable anchor to ensure the dentures stay in place.
